Lamenting the Future of Blues

Here is a great article from the Wall Street Journal on the future of the blues.

Lamenting The Future Of the Blues

This aricle hits the nail right on the head. Blues music needs to breath. Purists and traditionalist need to open their minds a little and not be afraid of losing the tradition. I've been speaking about this for years. I've even moved away from calling myself a blues artist because I've been told my multiple industry leaders that I'm not bluesy enough. Even more importantly, calling yourself a blues artist conjures up mental pictures of some old guy from the 20s with a resonator guitar singing on a scratchy 45 or 78 rpm record. Fans and venues that depend on fans don't like that image. What they should vision is someone like Gov't Mule, Derrick Trucks, John Mayer, Joe Bonamassa, etc.
